WALT: make  and talk about different shapes using symmetry

Success criteria:
  • identify lines of symmetry in objects
  • make patterns which have line symmetry
  • describe line symmetry in their own words
  • fold paper systematically
  • cut shapes from folded paper
  • find number patterns derived from folding and cutting using a table


WALT: make and talk about 2D shapes by using symmetry

Success Criteria:
  • identify 2D shapes by name
  • name 2-dimensional shapes: triangle, square, oblong (non-square rectangle), circle, oval, pentagon, hexagon and diamond
  • describe shape attributes in their own language
  • explore and describe faces, edges, and corners of 2D and 3D objects
  • make, name and describe polygons and other plane shapes
  • describe the process of making shapes with line symmetry.
  • name common two-dimensional mathematical shapes

3D Foil Cube

WALT:  make 3D foil shapes.

Success criteria:

Make a 3D shape out of paper and wrap it in foil.
Talk about what kind of shape you made.
Talk about how many faces, sides and corners your shape has.

Library session

WALT: read a book for enjoyment.

What that looks like:  

           We are sitting quietly in a spot reading a book and showing respect to everyone else reading.

WALT: write a descriptive piece of writing.

Success criteria:

  1. My story says where, when, who, why and how.
  2. The events are in order.
  3. I will use time words (first, then, finally, etc.).
  4. Details are added to make my writing interesting. Adding adjectives (no went!)
